Tannery Arts is a small, independent charity concerned with supporting the professional development of emerging and established artists through the provision of affordable studios, promoting their practice through opportunities to exhibit work, develop projects and generate partnerships.

Tannery Arts supports the professional development of emerging and established artists through providing secure conditions for the production of excellent artworks; its core of our work consists of developing studios and negotiating the rental and management of buildings. It also exists to encourage both a wide public and those with a specialist interest to engage with, and participate in contemporary art, through partnering with local authorities, private property owners and social housing organisations, as well as engage in learning activities. It produces exhibitions and commissions as ‘Tannery Projects’ and is committed to mentoring new and emerging artists.

The organisation is led by Co-Directors Andrew Bick and Fiona Long, and has a Board of Directors who support their work and their partnership with Drawing Room’s exhibition programme and learning activities.  The board serves to support the work we do in creating affordable studio spaces and securing properties as well as overseeing our financial reporting and annual audit. Planning and decision-making regarding the future of the organisation is based on teamwork, with the support and advice of past and current board members. All of our staff are also artists and therefore managing multi layered careers. We believe this approach to employment brings us closer as an organisation to the artists we provide studios for, and include in our projects. This remains a founding ethos of our work along with a collaborative and equality-based approach to employment and studio provision.

Tannery Arts has been registered as a Community Benefit Society since 2000 and is an ‘exempt charity’, and therefore exempt from registration with the Charities Commission.
